MLB Value Picks 6/26

Top Value Hitting Options

With Scherzer at $14000 on DK (25% of total salary) and $12500 on FD (36% of total salary), a lot of cash games will come down to who can build a lineup that can still produce on a limited budget. Here are some players to target in the bottom third of salary listings but who still have decent matchups.

Howie Kendrick – 2B (DK – $4000, FD – $2600) – Kendrick is only $2600 on FD which makes him a great play tonight! He is batting 2nd in the Dodgers order, behind Joc and in front of Turner and Gonzalez. The Dodgers face rookie pitcher Justin Nicolino of the Marlins in his second start of the season and should give him a few “welcome to the big league” runs after the Reds failed to do so last Saturday. Kendrick has a .368 wOBA and a .461 SLG percentage against LHP this year. I don’t recommend spending the $4K on DK for him, but at $2600 on FD, he is a steal.

Jose Iglesias – SS/3B (DK- $3000, FD – $2200) – Another solid cheap infield play, Iglesias offers value on both sites at his price point. Iglesias is getting busy against LHP this year with a .467 wOBA, .438 AVG, and a 1.083 OPS. He will step into the box against Chicago’s southpaw Jose Quintana. Iglesias’ value will fluctuate a little based on where he bats in the order tonight, but he should still be able get on base at least twice against Quintana, making it easy to hit 2x or 3x value.

David Peralta – OF (DK – $2700, FD – $3500) – Peralta’s salary is down $700 on DK putting him in the bottom third in terms of salary, but top third for potential value. Left-hitting Peralta’s splits are incredibly better against RHP this year:

vs. RHP vs. LHP
wOBA .367 .225
ISO .198 .071
SLG .458 .250
OPS .799 .485

And tonight he faces off against Tyson Ross, a pretty tough matchup, but the numbers point to Peralta being much more likely to get on base (which when you bat in front of Goldschmidt is great potential for Runs scored). At $2700, 1 hit and 1 R will put Peralta in the 2x ROI category.
